Ok, I’m starting to learn how to color things right, I think. This is something that always came more naturally to me with pastel and colored pencil; layering colors to make things look more dimensional and real. I don’t know why, but that just never translated to me in digital drawing. Probably because I can’t feel the layers of colors building on top of each other. So that’s been tricky, forcing myself to get back into the habit of coloring things with more colors. I think I’m learning though.
In other news, I started keeping a sketch book next to my bed, which is what resulted in this. This peacock/dragon/thing was the last thing I saw in my head before going to sleep one night. So I sketched it out real quick in my ideas sketch book and then fell asleep. It ended up being a great model for my coloring practice, so that worked out perfectly! Also since it’s kind of a weird, goofy subject matter, that gave me extra incentive to actually make it good. Because otherwise no one would know what it was supposed to be and just think I was crazy haha.
I think it turned out fairly well though. One of my more detailed drawings, plus the first one with decent contrast, coloring, and realism(ish). Either way, it makes me feel good that I can tell I’m learning just by looking at it. It still isn’t the best, but I’m getting better!
